5 Ways to Use Rosemary for Hair Growth

If you haven’t heard (which, if you’re following me, how have you not??) - Rosemary is my absolute favorite thing when it comes to healthy hair growth!

Not only is it scientifically proven to work as well as Rogaine for stopping hair loss (and promoting new growth), but it’s also worked so well for me personally. I used to have hair loss on the sides of my hairline and I was trying SO hard to find something to save my thinning hair- but then I found the wonders of rosemary and I am absolutely hooked. Now there’s baby hairs coming in where there wasn’t anything before- and my usual hair overall is so much fuller and healthier than it’s ever been.

If you’ve been trying to grow your hair for a while now, I’m sure you hopped on the ricewater trend (which works amazing for some people, but can cause protein overload and damage for others).

Rosemary oil is a lot less harsh on your hair and scalp, and is actually scientifically PROVEN to work as well as, if not better than Rogaine for hair regrowth!

The amazing thing about rosemary is there’s countless way to use it. I have five different methods I wanna share with you- and you can use one, try a mix, or go for them all to see what rosemary can do for your hair!

  1. Rosemary Water Rinse

One of my fave methods is this simple homemade rosemary water rinse. Use it after your conditioner and don’t rinse it out!

To make it, simply put a few sprigs of fresh rosemary in a pot and cover them in a good amount of water. Then, bring it to a boil and let it steep for 15-30 minutes. It should become a light green color. Then, strain out the rosemary and keep in a trusty spray bottle you can easily use in the shower.

  2. Rosemary Vinegar Rinse

Super similar to water rinse, this method blends the power of rosemary with the wonders of apple cider vinegar. If you want a double punch of hair growth & training your hair to go longer between washes- this is the method for you. Simply follow the same recipe as the water, but use apple cider vinegar instead.

  3. Rosemary Oil

Rosemary water is great for hair growth, but rosemary OIL is my #1 hair growth tip. I started using rosemary oil well before I ever touched rosemary water and that is when I started noticing my hair growing back in around my temples. Only then did I delve into rosemary water, knowing that rosemary was the magic ingredient for me and my hair regrowth!

To make homemade rosemary oil, take about a 1 tbsp of dry rosemary and put it in a small glass jar. Fill the rest of the jar with olive oil (my fave carrier oil) and let that bad boy sit in a sunny spot for 2 weeks. Let nature do its magic and you will have the best hair oil for regrowth, period.

  4. Rosemary Essential Oil Massage

If the oil recipe feels too crafty or if you don’t want to put in the effort, you can mix any pure rosemary essential oil with a carrier oil (I prefer castor oil when doing this method!) Mix with a carrier oil like olive or castor oil and massage 2-3 drops of rosemary essential oil into your scalp. Let it sit for 2-3 hours, then rinse out.

  5. Add Rosemary Oil to Your Shampoo

The easiest of the easy methods here- simply add 5 drops of rosemary essential oil to your shampoo. Easy peasy!

Any time this feels overwhelming, picture your hair FULL & FLOURISHING. I’m only 3 months in to using rosemary oil for hair growth and I am seeing major regrowth in my temple areas. Two of the major studies I have researched mentioned the 6 month mark is when people saw real results, so I may just be lucky, but stay consistent and don’t lose hope! Believing that you can grow your hair back is the biggest step to keeping yourself consistent with rosemary oil & seeing the results you’ve always dreamed of.
